Foreign languages will no longer be compulsory – High school graduation exam reduced to 4 subjects

The Ministry of Education and Training recently announced the high school graduation exam plan from 2025. According to this plan, the exam will follow the 2+2 scheme, and foreign languages will no longer be a compulsory subject.

According to Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong, the 2+2 scheme has received the highest consensus and satisfies many factors, being assessed by different levels and departments.

According to Lao Dong newspaper, at the press conference on the organization of the graduation exam and recognition of high school graduation from 2025 on the afternoon of November 29th, Professor Dr. Huynh Van Chuong, Director of the Quality Management Department, Ministry of Education and Training, said that there are up to 7 foreign languages and English is one of the foreign languages that high schools are currently choosing to teach.

Therefore, throughout the process from grade 3 to 12, students will learn, be assessed, and evaluated in foreign languages.
